Application Process
1. Attend a Study Abroad Information Session
- Students must attend one info session to begin their study abroad process.
- Questions are most welcome.
- All session dates, times, and locations are found on the Study Abroad 101 Info Sessions & Events tab.
2. Research Study Abroad Programs / Select One Study Abroad Program and Apply
- Click here to find approved study abroad programs.
3. Meet with the Director of Academic Engagement
- Once you have been to an info session or "Study Abroad 101", you may schedule a meeting with the director or student worker:

4. Start Study Abroad Application Through CBU's Terra Dotta
- Find your program on https://calbaptist.terradotta.com on the "Programs" section. If your study abroad program is not available, let the Director of Academic Engagement know.
- Begin your application through Terra Dotta, completing the "Step 1: Study Abroad Basics" form and submitting recommendations.
5. Meet with Academic Advisor to Create Degree Plan (Step 2)
- Create a degree plan that includes your time abroad
- Upload your degree plan and click the date and advisor you met with on your Terra Dotta application. This will be under "Step 2: Meet with Academic Advising and Develop Degree Plan."
6. Meet with Department Dean or Chair
- Discuss the possibility of study abroad with the dean or department chair of your program/major.
- Discuss any academic variances that might occur. A variance is needed if you wish to take a course abroad that is within your major/minor/concentration.
- Submit Recommendation "Department Dean/Chair." The Department Dean/Chair will electronically acknowledge they have met with you through Terra Dotta.
7. Complete Study Abroad Program Provider Process
- Complete program requirement/application for third party study abroad company. Email any documents that require study abroad approval to director.
8. Apply for a Passport/Student Visa (if required)
- Passport must be valid six months past your return date.
- Your third party program will guide you through the visa process for your host country.
9. Submit Course List and Descriptions (Step 3)
- Upload or complete your list of 7 (semester) or 3-5 (summer) courses, your program snapshot and program weblink through your Terra Dotta application. This will be under "Step 3: Course List and Descriptions."
- Once this step has been completed, you will be officially "approved" for study abroad, giving you new options on Terra Dotta.

- After the University Registrar reviews your application and courses, they will post your approved courses on Terra Dotta under, "Step 4: University Registrar: Study Abroad Course Approvals."
- Once you have looked over the courses, select the courses you want to take abroad and submit them under, "Step 4A: University Registrar: Final Course Selection & Registration."
11. Financial Aid
- A Financial Aid advisor will be in contact regarding your financial aid.
- Your application will be forwarded from Registrar's Office to Financial Aid for review through Terra Dotta.
- Meet with Financial Aid if needed.
12. Pay Balance to CBU
- Student Accounts will be in contact regarding your study abroad invoice.
- Students will not pay their program provider directly.
- Balance must be paid to CBU two weeks before departure date.
13. Submit the Remainder of Your Terra Dotta Forms
- Submit Emergency Contacts and International Insurance, Flight Itinerary, Medical Information, Visa Upload and any remaining forms.
14. Attend Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation
- Director of Academic Engagement will schedule orientation and provide details on time and date.
15. Bon Voyage!
- Check-in upon arrival to your destination. Send director email within the first week of arriving.
16. Attend Return Banquet
- Attend a mandatory debrief meeting.
- Report any change of courses while overseas.
- Get involved. Become a Global Ambassador and share with other students.
