Appeal Non-CBU Study Abroad Programs

Students looking to study abroad are encouraged to choose from CBU Signature Program opportunities. These programs are thoroughly vetted for academic integrity, safety, support, and accreditation. Their courses are pre-approved by the university. The Office of the Provost must approve any study abroad program that a student wishes to obtain credits from while enrolled at CBU.

Students can appeal for an exception to the policy which restricts study abroad to these programs. The appeal process is described below. Students must obtain approval for their appeal before continuing on the study abroad process. Once approved, students will be granted access to the program and/or fill out the “Other” program category on their application. Programs that are appealed should not be in the same location as existing CBU Signature Programs.

Appeal Criteria
The Director of Academic Engagement and/or Global Engagement Task Force will review programs based on their academic integrity, professional reputation, safety and support, and rationale for program choice. In order to receive approval for a Non-CBU sponsored study abroad program, the program must meet one of the following criteria:

  • The Non-CBU sponsored study abroad program must be offered through an accredited, four-year, degree-granting institution in the United States providing an American transcript upon completion of the program
OR

  • The program or university abroad must have a U.S. educational provider that can verify the accreditation of the university abroad and furnish CBU with a translation of the foreign transcript (courses, grades and credits) at the conclusion of the program.
OR

  • The program must have an affiliation agreement with CBU. Current third-party programs with affiliate agreements with CBU include ISA, Living and Learning International, CISabroad, CEA, AIFS, and Veritas Christian Study Abroad.
