Financial Aid


  • FAFSA: Apply for FAFSA before you start the study abroad application process, even if you do not think you qualify.
  • Institutional Aid: You cannot use CBU scholarships or institutional aid during your study abroad semester. Missionary scholarships will also not apply to study abroad programs. However, there is one exception to institutional aid; the direct exchange program at Aoyama Gakuin University in Japan does allow you to use scholarships and institutional aid.
  • Government Aid & Private Loans: While you will not recieve institutional aid or CBU scholarships during study abroad, you may use government aid, including pell grants and cal grants as well as private loans, to cover your study abroad semester programs.
  • Full-Time Enrollment: You must be enrolled as a full-time student to receive financial aid. You should also be familiar with further eligibility requirements.
  • Maximum Aid & Summer Study Abroad: There is a maximum amount of aid you can receive per academic year. Make sure you have aid available to use when you study abroad. In many cases, students will not be able to use financial aid for summer study abroad programs. 
  • Meet with Financial Aid: You can request to meet with a Financial Aid Counselor in before starting your study abroad application. Find your Financial Aid Counselor here.
To find information about the costs of CBU study abroad signature programs, go to Featured Programs and select a program you are interested in. Once you are the desired program, select the “Cost” tab to find a breakdown of program expenses.
Financial Aid Process

Once you applied to study abroad and have completed all parts of the application process, including registering and submitting your final courses on Terra Dotta, your application will be forwarded from the Registrar's Office to Financial Aid for review through Terra Dotta. Your Financial Aid advisor who will add your financial aid award amount on your study abroad application. Student Accounts will then be in contact regarding your study abroad invoice. Remember, students will not pay their program directly but will pay through their Cashnet portal.

The cost for your study abroad program must be paid in full to CBU Student Accounts by the CBU Semester Payment due date for the semester you will be abroad or 2 weeks before your date of departure, whichever comes first.
