AlertTraveler


California Baptist University provides students traveling abroad as part of academic programs free access to the AlertTraveler system to help keep you safe while overseas. AlertTraveler will keep you informed of critical events that may impact you while abroad and will allow CBU to better assist you in the event of an emergency. Other benefits of AlertTraveler include the below:
 
  • Emergency Alerts: Proactively alerts travelers when an emergency may affect them
  • Location Alerts: Location intelligence and alerts provided by WorldAware's team of experts
  • Country and City Intelligence: Provides travelers with up-to-date country and city intelligence to prepare them for travel
  • Check-in and Help Requests: Allows administrators to send check-in requests and for travelers to respond, travelers can also “Request Help” via the app by phoning or messaging contact persons 
  • Multiple Communication Methods: push notifications, email, and SMS text messaging
  • Quick-Dial Emergency Services: Quick-dial emergency services numbers for the traveler's actual location
  • Offline Access: Country intelligence and emergency contact info is cached on travelers' cell phones for offline access

Who Can Use AlertTraveler

Students, faculty and staff will only have access to Alert Traveler after they have been accepted and approved for an overseas program and have completed any requirements through Terra Dotta. AlertTraveler is activated through Terra Dotta. Please see the below sections on how to install and activate the app.
 
Installing AlertTraveler (iOS devices)

Travelers should go to the Apple App Store on an iOS device and search for AlertTraveler by
name. Once they find the app, they should download and install it on their iOS device. Users will need to obtain an AlertTraveler password before configuring the app (See “Registering AlertTraveler” below).

In order for AlertTraveler to be fully functional, users should allow Notifications, LocationServices, and Health and Motion Services. In order to enable these services, users should respond as indicated below to the following messages during initial activation:
 
  • “AlertTraveler Would Like to Send You Notifications” - Tap “Allow”
  • “AlertTraveler Would Like to Access your Motion & Fitness Activity” - Tap “OK”
  • “Allow “AlertTraveler” to access your location while you use the app” - Tap “Allow”
  • “Background location is not enabled” - Tap “Settings then tap “Location” and then select “Always.”

Note: If you need to revise these settings, you can go to the iOS Settings app and select AlertTraveler where you can configure each of these services.

Installing AlertTraveler (Android devices)

Travelers should go to the Google Play store on an Android device and search for AlertTraveler by name. Once they find the app, they should install it on their device. Users will need to obtain an AlertTravel password before configuring the app (See “Registering AlertTraveler” below).

In order for AlertTraveler to be fully functional, users should allow location services. In order to enable these services, users should respond as indicated below to the following message during initial activation:
 
  • Allow AlertTraveler to access this device’s location? - Tap “Allow”
Note: If you need to revise these settings, you can go to the Android Settings app, the “Apps” section, select AlertTraveler, and open the “Permissions” section where you can enable or disable this setting.
Activate AlertTraveler
  1. Download the AlertTraveler app on your phone.
  2. Login to Calbaptist.terradotta.com
  3. Go to the Home button on the top left and select “Applicant”
  4. Faculty: Click on “AlertTraveler Faculty/Staff Program.” Once in the application, under Materials, click “AlertTraveler Individual Student Placements Internships, Practicums, Research Material”. 
  5. Students: Click on your application under "Applicant." Once in the application, under Materials, click “AlertTraveler Individual Student Placements Internships, Practicums, Research Material”
  6. Click the link to “Activate AlertTraveler”
  7. Scroll to the bottom until you see the below picture. Enter your phone number and email. Select “Generate/Save.”
  8. A password should be generated which you should copy and use to login to your phone. You should now have access.
