General Study Abroad Scholarships


Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship 
$5,000 - $8,000
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers grants for undergraduate study abroad and provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to enable them to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. The Gilman Scholarship Program broadens the student population that studies and interns abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints. The program aims to encourage students to study and intern in a diverse array of countries and world regions. The program also encourages students to study languages, especially critical need languages (those deemed important to national security).
 
Boren Awards for International Study 
$8,000 for a summer program (special initiative for STEM students only; 8 weeks minimum)
$10,000 for a semester
$20,000 for a 6 - 12 months
Boren Awards for International Study: Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to add an important international and language component to their educations. They focus on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad
 
Fullbright Scholarship
Full or partial tuition
This program is the largest U.S. international exchange program offering opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide. It awarded approximately six thousand grants in 2008, at a cost of more than $275.4 million, to U.S. students, teachers, professionals, and scholars to study, teach, lecture, and conduct research in more than 155 countries, and to their foreign counterparts to engage in similar activities in the United States.

Freeman-ASIA 
Summer Award: up to $3,000
Semester/Quarter Award: up to $5,000
Academic Year Award: up to $7,000
Freeman-ASIA accepts applications from U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying at the undergraduate level at a two-year or four-year college or university who demonstrate financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. This award provides need-based funding to assist the recipient with the cost of the study abroad program and related expenses, including airfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books, etc. 

Gilman-McCain Scholarship
Academic Year Award: Up to $5,000
Deadline to Apply is October 1st 2019
This scholarship is specifically made for students who want to study abroad whose parents are currently serving on active duty in the military. This scholarship honors the late senator John McCain by enabling children of active duty military to develop the leadership and career readiness skills and global perspective to pursue careers of service and contribute to preserving the principles and alliances that are critical to an international order based on the rule of law, human rights, and democracy.
Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships
Academic Year Award: $1250 to $10,000
The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) invests in promising students with financial need who wish to study abroad. Potential applicants who meet the eligibility requirements may participate on any international education program that meets their academic objectives.
HI USA Explore The World Scholarship
Recipients receive $2,000 to help finance their international trip that includes an educational or service component.
Zonta International's Jane M. Klausman (JMK) Women in Business Scholarship
Academic Year Award: $2000 each
The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship was established in 1998 from a generous bequest by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York, USA, and the 1990-1995 Zonta International Parliamentarian.

The program operates at the Zonta club, district/region and international levels. Zonta annually awards up to 32 scholarships of US$2,000 each at the district/region level and six international scholarships in the amount of US$8,000 each. Since the program's inception, Zonta has awarded 602 Scholarships, totaling more than US$1.4 million, to 460 women representing 57 countries. American Association of University Women (AAUW) Funding & Awards
American Association of University Women (AAUW) Funding & Awards
Academic Year Award: Award: $2,000 - $30,000 (female graduate students/professionals, November deadline).
The AAUW supports women pursuing a variety of graduate academic opportunities. Grants are typically in the range of $2,000-$30,000 to pursue topics including community development, international projects, and career development -- and the funds can be used for study programs as deemed appropriate as part of the AAUW application.
Rotary Foundation & Club Scholarships
Award: Varies
The Rotary Foundation and regional clubs offer a variety of scholarship opportunities for students to study -- and to study abroad. These include scholarships for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, and the amounts and eligibility vary by club. You do not necessarily need to be a Rotary member to qualify. Scholarships totaling 7.5 million dollars are given out each year, on average. There’s a special scholarship for those who want to study peace and conflict resolution at one of their six partner universities. Applications are open in February.

The Ashley Soulé Conroy Foundation
Award: $4,000, Undergraduate Students, Deadline in June and October
Ashley Soulé Conroy’s family wants to reward your desire to explore and experiment with different people and places and ways of living, just as the founder’s daughter has. That’s why they set up a scholarship for undergraduates in need: to change lives. 
Good Colleges Study Abroad Award
Award: $2,000, Undergraduate Students, Deadline in November
To have a chance to win a Good Colleges Study Abroad Scholarship you just have to write an essay on the theme they give every year. 2020’s competition theme was “Why That City?” and applicants were asked to wonder how immersing themselves in a foreign culture would be a life changing experience. Are you feeling inspired? This scholarship is open to current and future college students.
